Account Tiers & Fees on Redbubble
Starting September 1, we’re making some updates to account fees to help Redbubble continue to be the best possible platform for your art to thrive.
Over the past few years, our vibrant community has grown to over 2.8 million artists. This has resulted in increased administrative costs as we’ve needed greater investment in resources to operate the marketplace, support the community of independent artists and their customers, and facilitate transactions that directly benefit your creative business.
To support this continued growth, we are updating how account fees are applied to allow us to continue investing in the service, support, platform features, and tools we provide for artists like you, as well as creating more marketing opportunities for you to promote your work.
These fees may apply to you based on your artist tier and will be a percentage of your monthly earnings, only applied if you make a sale. We believe this will benefit everyone who participates in our marketplace – artists, your customers, third-party fulfillers, and licensing partners.
Here’s what to expect
- New Fees for Premium Artists: We’re introducing a 20% platform fee on monthly earnings for Premium accounts. This investment will bring new traffic sources and robust marketing campaigns, ensuring your designs continue to reach a growing customer base, driving more sales for you.
- Simplified Fees for Standard Artists: We’re simplifying and improving our existing fee structure for Standard accounts, moving from a variable fee based on your monthly earnings bracket to a simpler percentage-based platform fee. Standard accounts will be charged 50% of their monthly earnings. This streamlined approach makes it easier to understand your earnings and ensures a consistent experience. To learn more about the Standard Tier, see: The Standard Tier Explained.
- Encouraging Higher Earnings with New Excess Markup Fee: To foster a marketplace that prioritizes competitive sales for your products, artists who set product markups above 20% will be charged a new 50% fee, on earnings made over 20%. This change will primarily affect a small minority of artists who engage in this behavior, and importantly, if artists have product markups at or below 20%, this excess markup fee will NOT apply to you. To learn more about how this works, see: The Excess Markup Fee Explained.
- Protecting Your Earnings with an Enforced Fee Cap: We’re implementing a fee cap. In any given payment period, an artist in the Standard or Premium tier can expect to not be charged more than $150 to help protect their earnings.
- Rewarding Positive Engagement with Pro Tier Exemption from Fees: Artists in the Pro tier, who consistently make high sales and demonstrate active engagement with the Redbubble marketplace, will be exempt from both the platform fee and excess markup fees. This is our way of recognizing and rewarding creators who actively contribute to the vibrancy of our platform.
These new changes are expected to go into effect September 1st onwards, and will only apply on sales you make in a given payment period. If you make no sales, then you will not be charged a fee, so artists are never out of pocket. The fee will be automatically deducted from your payments and will be in the artists’ preferred currency. Until then, the existing fees as outlined in this Help Center article will apply.
Running a vibrant artist marketplace means continuously improving how we support you through technology, discovery, operations, and customer experience. As the volume of content grows, so do the investments required to host, surface, and promote your work fairly and effectively.
These changes help ensure:
- A more sustainable platform for all artists and their customers.
- Faster innovation and feature improvements.
- Stronger protections for your work and earnings.
- Continued growth in customer reach and sales opportunities.
For detailed information see: Understanding how account fees may apply to you.
We understand that change can feel significant, so we want to be transparent and clear about how Redbubble is actively supporting artists to ensure these updates garner positive outcomes for the community.
- Smarter Discovery: We’re improving how your customers find designs with high commercial potential so your best work is surfaced more effectively.
- Improved Tag Matching: Smarter recommendations and improved tagging mean your relevant work is more likely to be seen by the right customers.
- Enhanced Marketing: We’re scaling up paid and organic marketing to bring your designs to a broader audience, increasing traffic and potential earnings.
- Fan Art & Licensing: We’re expanding licensing partnerships, opening new opportunities for you to connect with beloved brands and communities.
And as a thank you to engaged artists, some Standard and Premium accounts will be upgraded before September 1, offering access to additional benefits and potentially lower fees. If you’re eligible, we’ll contact you directly.

Accounts on Redbubble can be classified into Redbubble Standard, Redbubble Premium or Redbubble Pro. The tiers reflect a more tailored approach to the service and support that we provide to better serve the artist community. Account tier classifications are based on criteria including design quality, artistic skill level, volume of designs, account activity, commercial success, and whether you follow our Community and Content Guidelines. We encourage artists to move up through the tiers by positively engaging with the marketplace, for example:
- Uploading designs that showcase your unique creative skills and artistic style
- Creating based on trends or themes your customers are searching for
- Regularly uploading your best work with attention to image resolution and product formatting
- For more information see: How accounts are reviewed and classified
As the Redbubble marketplace continues to grow, we want to continue our mission of supporting independent artists, being a loved destination for your customers, and delivering value for licensing partners. We believe that the changes we’re making encourages and rewards positive engagement with the marketplace, make Redbubble more accessible to commercially minded artists, and will strengthen our foundations for the future.
