Like most great flashes of brilliance, the idea for Shark Week was dreamed up in a bar and scrawled on the back of a napkin. That was in 1987. 26 years later, The Discovery Channel is still dedicating a week of programming to the awesomeness of Sharks. Shark Week is designed to raise awareness and respect for an often misunderstood creature. It’s proven so popular that it’s now broadcast in over 72 countries. But Sharks don’t just inspire couch surfers. There are plenty of artists who have a soft spot for our (sometimes) ferocious, finned friends. Here are just a few examples.
As with all the collections we compile, this is just the tip of the iceberg so we encourage you to please point us towards your favorites in the comments below. You can show your support for these artists by commenting on or favoriting their work, sharing or liking this collection, or (if you’re particularly awe-struck) purchasing something to stick on your body, iPhone or walls.
