Celebrating Lunar New Year with TheLadyErnestEmber, Rusty Doodle and more!

Lunar New Year marks the arrival of spring and is a time for reunions, hearty feasts, and leaving behind the old to welcome a fresh, prosperous year. While it’s primarily celebrated in China, the festival is also a major event in countries like South Korea, Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore, and anywhere with a significant Asian community.

This year, we honor the Year of the Snake 🐍, symbolizing calmness, alertness, and transformation—a time to embrace new opportunities and adapt to challenges with grace. For artists on Redbubble, Lunar New Year inspires creations that celebrate family, traditions, and the joy of shared moments. From mouthwatering dumplings to the thrill of receiving red envelopes from elders, the festive spirit shines through their artwork.

We spoke with two amazing artists, Rusty Doodle and TheLadyErnestEmber, about their favorite Lunar New Year traditions. Their stories left us tickled cherry-blossom pink 🌸! Scroll through to discover their heartfelt insights and explore stunning creations from Asian artists celebrating this vibrant holiday.

Meet Rusty Doodle

I love Japanese manga, anime, and the kawaii art style, which inspires me a lot as an artist.

My favorite part of Lunar New Year is the reunion dinner with my family on Lunar New Year’s Eve. It’s a special time when everyone makes an effort to come together and share a meal at home. Our family tradition is to enjoy a steamboat hotpot for the reunion dinner.

Meet TheLadyErnestEmber

What I love most about Lunar New Year is how Asian families gather to share a delightful spread of traditional Chinese treats like Yusheng, Prawn Rolls, and Kueh Bangkit, while reconnecting and reflecting on how everyone has grown over the past year. The celebration is deeply rooted in cherishing bonds with loved ones, acknowledging achievements in all forms, and expressing heartfelt wishes for health and good fortune in the coming year. The festive and uplifting atmosphere makes it a truly meaningful occasion treasured by the Asian community.

As an Asian artist, I draw great inspiration from Japan’s kawaii culture, which celebrates cuteness and simplicity. This festive season, my creativity is especially sparked by the use of animal zodiacs and the bold, vibrant red symbolizing Lunar New Year in my artworks.
