Progress is Not a Straight Line by DoodlebyMeg

Progress is Not a Straight Line

What are three fun facts about you that customers might not know?

  • I share a life with my husband and our 3 beautiful fur babies in Oklahoma City.
  • A few of my hobbies are knitting, crafting, photography, and playing cozy video games on my switch.
  • I love to collect plushies and Jellycat is my favorite brand.

How would you describe yourself and your art as a graphic artist/illustrator? What themes or emotions do you aim to convey through your work?

I think my art is bright, positive, relatable with a 60s vibe meets a little bit of punk. I try to make art to make people smile or laugh. I love a positive quote but sometimes they can feel very surface level. I have tried to transition my art from positive quotes to be more relatable quotes.

What are three things you want to achieve in 2025?

I am planning on making more coloring books to sell on my website and I hope to have more products in more retailers! I also have some artist markets planned for 2025 as I love being able to be face to face with my customers.

Do you have any resolutions or intentions for 2025? How do you plan to stay on track with them?

I really want to focus on my health. When I have the most energy and am taking care of myself is when I become the most creative/productive.

You’re a huge fan of manifestation. Why do you think this is important, and what can other artists learn from it?

I think that manifestations can work if you also put a lot of focus and work into them. Everything takes small steps so making smaller goals to meet your bigger goals is the key!

It is okay to not know what your end goal is and to slowly work on figuring that out everyday. The creative process is really a journey and mine changes many times throughout the year.

Can you share a personal example of something you manifested in your career?

I wanted to be in stores such as Urban Outfitters and Target. I kept creating and putting my art out there. That is now a reality!

How have you evolved as an artist and what challenges have you had to overcome as one?

I started designing by drawing on paper with a micron pen and photoshopping my art. When I bought an ipad my entire creative process and drawing style changed. Figuring out your style really is a process so let yourself enjoy the process.

How do you deal with artist blocks? Do you push through or take a break?

I do experience those quite a lot. Especially now when my brain is consumed with the craziness that is our current climate. I try to let myself enjoy my reality tv and spending time with my family. Taking breaks helps you to come back and view your work differently.

What’s your advice for creative self-care?

Take care of yourself physically and it will help mentally and creatively. Spend time scrolling through pinterest and instagram. Exposing yourself to inspiration is just as important as creating.

What would you say to an artist starting their creative journey in 2025? OR What’s one thing you wish you knew when you started?

Be careful with AI because copyrighting your work is going to be difficult. It can be a great tool to help with composition and ideas. Be mindful of your use with it. Invest in an iPad and Procreate if you love to draw.

Meghan’s journey into 2025 is a testament to the power of creativity and its ability to inspire others. She finds hope in knowing her art encourages fellow artists to pursue their dreams and express themselves. Her story reminds us all to value our creativity and share it with the world. Here’s to a year of growth, inspiration, and meaningful connections! 🎨✨
