Make Fan Art

Borderlands Fan Art Competition

Over the last month, Borderlands artists have spent their time looting and shooting, battling evil twins, and maybe even lamenting the loss of a few lost chili recipes, all while creating some of the most amazing Borderlands artwork we’ve ever seen.

Over the past week, the Borderlands team and the people over at Gearbox have had a pretty tough job of choosing only three designs from the incredible artwork submitted. Accepting the challenge, they have chosen the winners. And they are…

Borderlands 3 launches on the 13th of September. If you can drag yourself away from all the lootin’ and shootin’, we’ve partnered with Gearbox Software to bring you a creative challenge that’ll inspire you to put down that controller and make some amazing fan art.

How it Works

  • The Borderlands Fan Art Competition runs from September 6th to October 13th
  • Make sure you read the Borderlands guidelines before you start creating
  • You can submit designs inspired by the entire series, including Borderlands, Borderlands 2, Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, Tales From the Borderlands, and Borderlands 3.
  • Create your original Borderlands fan art and upload it to your Redbubble shop
  • Tag your work with these three tags: “Borderlands”, “Borderlandsfanart” and “BorderlandsxRB” to enter it into the competition
  • To be eligible, your work must be licensed as part of the Redbubble Partner Program
  • Winners will be chosen by a panel from Gearbox and Redbubble

What is the Redbubble Partner Program?

Redbubble’s Partner Program is an ongoing program to allow fan artists to create new, officially licensed works and post them safely on Redbubble, without fear of future takedowns. If you’re unfamiliar with the Partner Program, read these links first:

Borderlands Design Guidelines

To give your work the best chance of being licensed and eligible for the competition, please take some time to read the Borderlands design guidelines. They cover everything you can and can’t include in your design. We’ve highlighted some key guidelines below but make sure you’ve checked all the details before you start creating.

  • We want to see original, unique fan art so feel free to experiment with different art styles
  • Consider more obscure characters and references that only super fans would recognize
  • Avoid unoriginal content like logos on their own, or designs that are similar to existing merchandise
  • Avoid submitting works that are vulgar, hyper violent, political, or otherwise inappropriate (there’s more on this in the guidelines)
  • Create designs that you’d love to have or wear!

Important Information:

  • Eligible entries will be available for sale in your Redbubble shop, so you’ll be able to financially benefit from your sales, for so long as Gearbox Software participates in the Redbubble Partner Program
  • By entering this promotion, you agree to both the Borderlands Fan Art Competition Terms & Conditions which are each available at the link below, and the Borderlands Design Guidelines

Inspiration

While you’re patiently waiting to get your hands on Borderlands 3, check out the Borderlands website for trailers, official guides, character intros, interactive skill trees and more. You can also head over to Twitch to follow the Borderlands Stream Team.

Once September 13 rolls around, clear your calendar for some serious gameplay. The best fan art comes from things that capture your attention and imagination, but if you want to get a feel for what’s standing out for others, take a look at the forums in the days after the release. We’ve been checking out some reviews and people are already excited about:

  • New characters – FL4K, Amara, Zane, and Moze are already inspiring fan artists
  • More than a billion guns. Guns that fire burgers, guns with legs, guns that shoot guns…
  • New locations – Journey beyond Pandora in your own spaceship, the Sanctuary 3

We hope you’re just as hyped as we are about Borderlands 3 and that our competition inspires loads of great fan art ideas. We can’t wait to see what you come up with.
