Self Promotion: Getting the Word Out

Do you need some promoting your store?

Here are some simple tips for new artists who are just starting on their Redbubble journey. Spoiler alert: you don’t have to fly an airplane banner or literally shout from the rooftops with a megaphone to get the word out. All it takes is getting comfortable with talking about yourself and listening for feedback. You got this.

Consider separate personal & artist social profiles

Some artists prefer to keep their artist life and personal life separate. An Instagram feed full of selfies with cats and pictures of each meal makes it difficult for fans to find (and possibly) purchase your work. Having a professional artist profile with dedicated social channels makes sure everything you share is focused on your work. You may appreciate the privacy once more people start following you!

Have a defined mission statement

What gets you up in the morning and keeps you going at night? Why do you create art? Who is your audience? What inspires you? Do you see why questions like these are important?

If you haven’t done so already, create a personal mission statement that clearly outlines why you do what do. In addition to helping others understand your work, a clear mission statement can help inform how you share that work with others. Next time you’re lost or confused about building your brand, take a moment to review your mission statement to remember why you started in the first place. Be supportive of those who support you

There are many ways to connect with people that invest in your art. Show appreciation for other artists on other platforms, respond to comments, and find ways to participate and engage within your community – be it local or online. Get comfortable as comfortable as you can with listening to feedback.

Stay curious. Learn from everything. Little interactions are investments that build up over time and can help develop solid artist-buyer relationships that lead to continued interest in your work.

Share works in progress

An amuse-bouche prepares the guest for the meal and offers a glimpse into the chef’s approach to the art of cuisine.

Prime your fans’ appetites with a sample of your current project. Yes, before it’s fully baked. A work in progress offers a peek into your creative process. You may be surprised by how many people enjoy looking behind the curtain and learning more about how you work.

It’s also a great reminder that the journey is as just as important as the destination.

Let followers and fans into your workspace

Whether your workspace resembles Dr. Frankenstein’s lab or a polished library, fans love to see where the magic happens. When you invite people to see your workspace, they learn more even more about your reality of art making. Try snapping a few photos or even a quick video of your space. This little gesture could go a long way.

Understand your audience with analytics

Left Brain, do you read me? Left Brain. Do. You. Copy?

Analytics may seem scary and complicated like Morse Code or astrophysics, but its uses are invaluable. See your most popular content, best times to post, and sources for how your fanbase found you.

Redbubble even built a Dashboard for all the questions you might have about your shop and how people are finding you. Check it out.
