Be Consistent

One of the first things fans look for on social media is your name. It’s the most obvious way to find who you are looking for, but you’d be surprised at how many artists use a different name or handle for each social media account they have. This makes finding the artist you’re looking for very time-consuming, and sadly most fans won’t look for very long. So, if you have a name or a handle that you like to use above others, use it on every social media profile you have. Be consistent with your name as well as your avatar, since it’s the second thing fans will notice when searching for you. It’s a great idea to use a custom made logo, such as Huebucket, who uses the same type based logo on every social media account.

Be Accessible

Help your fans find your profiles as well as any products you share on social media. Connect your social media accounts to your Redbubble profile, and link to them from every portfolio or website that you use to feature your art. Make it easy for your fans to explore your work as well as the various accounts you use to connect with the world.

When sharing products make it easy for your fans to find the work. For those social media platforms that make it difficult to click links, such as Instagram, we recommend using a url Shortening service such as Bit.ly. The great thing about this service is that you can make vanity url’s, so that when you share your new super awesome sloth shirt on Instagram, you can direct your fans to bit.ly/supersloths for example. When sharing to Facebook or Twitter, you can share directly from your Redbubble profile and the work will be featured in the post for you. Read more about our Social Sharing Optimizations.

Be Creative

The average person may be exposed to thousands of ads on a daily basis. You can imagine this makes it hard to cut through the noise and make your posts and promotions stand out. One of the best things you can do to help optimize your efforts, is to be creative with your posts. You’re already sharing your creative works, make the posts just as engaging. Try different things such as clever puns, striking imagery, or better yet use user generated content such as fans wearing your shirts. Ask your fans to share their images using your name as a hashtag, or hold a contest to help encourage fans to share these types of images.

Along with compelling content in your posts, you can also take advantage of the new features many social media platforms are rolling out such as Instagram Stories, live-streaming, slideshows, and more. We’ll have a post on using these effectively very soon.
