Trending on Redbubble: Mandalas

These geometric designs have become a hallmark of the boho look, but mandalas have a long a spiritual history that goes way beyond trendy. From the Sanskrit word for “circle,” the mandala is a symbol for Hinduism and Buddhism and represents the universe. The petals you often see peeling off a mandala’s center circle originally represented gates to the four cardinal directions: north, south, east, and west.

Lately we’ve seen tons of Redbubble artists putting their own spin on this ancient design. For a colorful version, you’ll dig Elspethmclean. If you’re into a more traditional take, checkout Micklyn‘s pastel and earth tone mandala doodles. For a more modern tattoo-inspired look, you’ll love Bioworkz‘s pen-and-ink animal designs.

Even if you aren’t artistically inclined, you can still get in on scrawling mandalas in the margins of your pages. In fact, Zen Doodling is a whole practice centered on relaxation through simple repetitive sketches.
