The Paterson Project: 100 Artists. 3 Floors. 1 Night.
One of Melbourne’s beloved buildings, the Paterson is currently the home for some of the area’s best underground and independent art. The Paterson Project was born out of mourning for this creative space after its demolition was scheduled to make way for residential apartments.
Redbubble is proud to be supporting the local art event which runs for one night only, showcasing 100 artists across 3 floors. The event is also a chance to support the Royal Children’s Hospital as well as say goodbye to this iconic Melbourne building.
The Paterson Project is one of the biggest and most diverse underground events in Melbourne and features Redbubble artists Loretta Lizzio, Jack Douglas and Ruskidd. The project also features two of our artists-in-residence, Marian Machismo (in collaboration with Dirty Bandits) and Creature Creature.
Ambrose and Chanel of Creature Creature said they got involved with the project because it’s a great opportunity to be surrounded by other artists:
"It's a celebration of the local Melbourne art scene and a coming together of the community."
Michael, one of the organisers of The Paterson Project sited Geelong Powerhouse and the community behind it as a main source of inspiration for the event:
"I saw an opportunity to have some fun, make some art… [and thought] why don’t we incorporate a charity, instead of just making art for the sake of it."
We also spoke to Redbubble artist Ruskidd, who sees The Paterson Project as an opportunity to learn from other artists and develop his skills:
“I’ve never been painting with this many people before... It’s always good to get fresh ideas when working with someone, seeing how they paint, their technique... everyone’s so different."
