5 Questions with Redbubble’s Artists-in-Residence

We’ve had some new roommates move into Redbubble’s Melbourne headquarters. No, they’re not the kind that leave dirty dishes in the sink and passive aggressive notes on your desk; they’re our new artists-in-residence.

We decided to ask them to take a short break from making our office more incredible to pose a few questions, so that you can get to know them a little bit better.

Two truths and a lie.

"Aeon Egg" by Creature Creature

1. Describe your work in 7 words or less.
Dark/light, hunter/prey, yin/yang, duality.

2. Why did you apply to become an RB resident, and what do you hope to achieve while in the RB residency program?
We applied to become a RB resident because we love collaboration, whether it’s with other individual artists or whole enterprises such as Redbubble!

Also we believe the environment you work can have a huge impact on your art practice. We love to work in different spaces and it’s best when you are surrounded by passionate people, whatever they do. This space is a lot different from our previous studio which was in a warehouse in Collingwood. Now we are really enjoying being part of a larger team. We hope we can bring some fun and inspiration into the office and connect with a larger audience.

3. Name a fear of yours.
Ambrose: moths (a primary teacher told him they were diseased) so, really, he has a fear of diseases.

Chanel: fish and death (that why we draw lots of koi and skulls) Worst scenario: being eaten by whale.

4. What is something most people don’t know about you?
We are foodies and coffee snobs.

5. If you could go back in time, what would you tell your younger artist self?
We would tell our younger selves to go out and find each other, so Creature Creature could exist earlier and we would have years more art and time together.

"Strontium Tree Part One" by Andy Thomas

1. Describe your work in 7 words or less.
Nature-inspired digital organic fusion.

2. Why did you apply to become an RB resident, and what do you hope to achieve while in the RB residency program?
I applied to become a Redbubble artist to further expand my art career and artist profile. I like the idea of becoming more hands on with my art and more involved in social networking, generating interest by showing people how I work. I hope to create a fusion between my digital art and painting and very much look forward to being part of an awesome group show at No Vacancy Gallery at Fed Square in May.

3. Name a fear of yours.
Not being able to express my creativity.

4. What is something most people don’t know about you?
I have a very structured routine with my daily life that helps facilitate the creation of my artwork.

5. If you could go back in time, what would you tell your younger artist self?
Keep going, never give up, don’t let anyone tell you that you that artists live a life of poverty.
