Maya Angelou on Being Human

Update: This post was originally published in February, but in light of the death of Maya Angelou, we thought it was fitting to share these inspiring words once again as they not only provide wonderful inspiration for all creative people, but perfectly illustrate the amazing humanity of the brilliant and talented poet.

"Find a beautiful piece of art. If you fall in love with Van Gogh or Matisse or John Oliver Killens, or if you fall love with the music of Coltrane, the music of Aretha Franklin, or the music of Chopin - find some beautiful art and admire it, and realize that that was created by human beings just like you, no more human, no less."

We should all read this quote by Maya Angelou quite frequently. Reminding yourself that great works of art are made by humans just like me and you can make getting up and into the studio each day much easier. Take some time today to find a piece, or even better post them in the comments below of works of art that are so stunning that you need to be reminded that a being made of flesh and matter constructed that thing.
