Daily Inspiration: David Byrne’s Dreamlike World

"I sense the world might be more dreamlike, metaphorical, and poetic than we currently believe--but just as irrational as sympathetic magic when looked at in a typically scientific way. I wouldn't be surprised if poetry--poetry in the broadest sense, in the sense of a world filled with metaphor, rhyme, and recurring patterns, shapes, and designs--is how the world works. The world isn't logical, it's a song."

You probably know David Byrne from Talking Heads, but he’s also a prolific writer, artist, and creative entity of all sorts of mediums. In his travelogue turned philosophical life musings book “Bicycle Diaries,” he’s collated his journals reflecting on his life riding around New York City. Today’s Daily Inspiration is just a snippet from his stories and observations that look back upon his most memorable moments as a cyclist, citizen, and artist in New York.
