Daily Inspiration: Charles Mingus on the Awesomely Simple

"Creativity is more than just being different. Anybody can plan weird; that’s easy. What’s hard is to be as simple as Bach. Making the simple, awesomely simple, that’s creativity."

Charles Mingus Jr. knew how to play jazz. He was a famous jazz bassist, forging his own style of hard bop music and was well known for incorporating gospel music into his works. Mingus was insistent on leading collective improvisation, he’d work with a group to showcase each individual. And in the spirit of Mr. Mingus we’ll keep this short, to honor his predilection for simplicity.
