See ‘Blade Runner’ as a Watercolor Fantasy
This “Blade Runner – The Aquarelle Edition” video has been making the rounds for a couple of days, but in case you missed it (like I did, apparently), now seemed a good time to share it after Motherboard published their interview with the creator, Anders Ramsell.
One part dream-like abridgment of a piece of already ethereal sci-fi, one part amateur rotoscoping masterpiece, you should definitely take the half hour out of your day to check out the video.
The Swedish artist tells the site that he was inspired by the Director’s Cut of Ridley Scott’s 1982 film in part because “Because it has so many layers,” he effuses.
Ramsell, who’s currently pursuing his Bachelors of Fine Arts at the University College of Art, Crafts and Design in Stockholm, says he was motivated to use aquarelle given how quickly he could crank out images for the project. In the meantime, he’s planning out another animated project and he’s currently seeking financing.
