Daniyel Lowden doesn’t know where he wants to be in 5 years’ time. Well, who does at 19 years of age? And if you’re surrounded by outrageously photogenic people and have an eye for the supremely gorgeous and a camera in your hand, who the heck cares? Lowden, or duuucky as we know him, has a lens that just luuuves people. If cosmetics companies could pack their products with as much youth and beauty as duuucky packs into these portraits, there’d be a whole lotta confusion round the old folks’ home.
Each shot depicts a lightness – a kind of airy grace, as if the trials of life weighed nothing. Perhaps the most striking thing about this collection is the youth of the photographer himself. How is it that someone so young manages to capture images of those his own age as if journalising them objectively. Is this a reflection of some kind of visual wisdom that exceeds Daniyel’s true years? And if so, what amazing shots can we expect in the next generation of photographs from this young talent? Time can only tell.
Lowden works primarily on a Canon 5D MK2 with a 50mm f1.4 lens in the remote and foggy island where he lives. In his own words, though, he “longs for the city and busy nights”. When you go, Daniyel, for goodness sake, remember to take your camera!
